Social Permits

The current Gambling (Jersey) Law allows for non-profit organisations such as charities, clubs and socieities, to raise funds through gambling.  In order to hold these activities non-profit organisations must first register with the Commission and then apply for the relevant permit.  Applications for registration and permit may be made simultaneously.  Please consult the advice on the Advice and Codes of Practice page.  Depending on the type of event, you may also need to submit the results to the Commission's Office.

Conducting and Promoting a Lottery

If your club or society wishes to promote a lottery (this includes a raffle) to raise funds, you need to:

  1. register your society for the purpose of conducting a lottery at least 21 days prior to the start of the even.
  2. apply for a permit to promote the lottery at least 21 days prior to the start of the even.
  3. within 3 months of the draw, submit a return form outlining participation and results.

Cinema Racing

Cinema racing is a virtual racing event where bets are placed. If your club or society wishes to conduct a private cinema racing event to raise funds, you need to:

  1. register your society for the purpose of cinema racing at least 21 days prior to the start of the event.
  2. apply for a permit at least 21 days prior to the start of the event.
  3. This permit will allow members and their guests only to participate in the event.

Bingo

If your club or society wishes to conduct a bingo event, you need to:

  1. register your society for the purposes of conducting bingo at least 21 days prior to the start of the event.
  2. apply for private bingo permit if your event is for members and their guests only or a public permit if your event is for members and the general public. This needs to be submitted at least 21 days before the event.
  3. within 3 months of the event, submit a return form outlining participation and results.

Gaming

If your club or society wishes to stage a form of gaming - for example, card games - at one of your events, you need to apply for a permit at least 21 days. before the event.

Crown and Anchor

If your club or society wishes to have a Crown and Anchor table at a charity fundraising event, you need to apply for a permit. This needs to be submitted to the Commission's office at least 21 days before the event.
