Gambling Law

The Gambling (Jersey) Law 2012 is in force from 1st January 2013. The Law is very different from the 1964 Law that is now repealed and people wishing to undertake gambling services, either for charity or by way of business, need to study the Law carefully. Regulations governing charitable gambling services are also in force (Gambling (Charitable and Membership Gambling Services) (Jersey) Regulations 2012) and have been significantly simplified. Please follow the relevant link to the charitable application forms and Code of Practice (Charitable Applications Forms and Codes of Practice).

Some commercial licences granted prior to the Law coming into effect continue as if under this Law, but their conditions and responsibilities remain as under the 1964/65 legislation. Only once the Commission has issued a new licensing policy and adopted a new fee schedule can commercial gambling services be offered to the public under the terms of the Law. The Commission will concentrate on updating the regulation of its existing licensees, but intends to broaden licensing opportunities to include commercial bingo and commercial card clubs thereafter.
